ABOUT THE ROLE

Playing an important role in the AFL People team, the People Business Partner acts as a strategic partner to our Heads of State and Leaders across QLD and NT to deliver on the AFL People plan and support the achievement of strategic organisational priorities.

As a true partner, you will focus on building strong relationships with your respective leadership teams, providing considered strategic and practical HR support and advice, influencing positive and sustainable business outcomes, organisational effectiveness and capability development. 

Within a highly collaborative environment, you will also contribute more broadly to the development and implementation of the AFL People plan and People team initiatives across talent, learning and development, employee relations, engagement, health & wellbeing and systems and processes, to curate a fun, inclusive and purpose led environment for our people to thrive and succeed. 

To be successful in this role, you’ll need a solid mix of technical HR (including strong employee relations skills) balanced with non-technical soft skills at an experienced level to influence and support. We’re on the lookout for someone who understands the varied nature of a business partner role and is equally as comfortable rolling up their sleeves through the day-to-day people tasks along with managing complex matters and driving nuanced strategy.

Working as part of a supportive People team that has incredible reach and supports multiple stakeholder groups, this role is required to travel interstate regularly to sit down with remotely located stakeholders, build relationships and create solutions together.

Please note that this is a 12-month maximum term contract role based in Yeronga, Brisbane.  

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF

Key Accountabilities:

  • Act as a key member of respective leadership teams, participating in leadership team meetings and providing input on initiatives and decisions at community level, along with providing People updates.
  • Coach and influence leaders at all levels on best practice HR and people related matters including performance management, employee relations, and recruitment practices.
  • Manage and lead complex end-to-end employee relations case management.
  • Partner and support leaders through design and implementation of organisational change and job re-design opportunities.
  • Support the business with navigating a range of complex matters and issues and implementing effective solutions.
  • Partner with the business to support processes for talent identification, succession planning and capability development activities to build diverse talent pipeline and bench strength.
  • Work in tandem with the People Business Partner counterpart for Game Development to drive the People plan across the whole Game Development business unit.
  • Collaborate with other People Business Partners, the people operations team and people specialists to inform and provide feedback on the transformation and improvement of our programs and services.
  • Create and empower positive and healthy daily experiences for our people in a hybrid working model.
  • Analyse people-related data via the monthly people dashboard to identify trends and opportunities that will enhance organisational effectiveness.
  • Drive participation and analyse employee engagement survey results and support business action planning.
  • Contribute to key projects within and outside of core role and support and contribute to the success of the broader team including ad-hoc projects.

OUR IDEAL TEAM MEMBER

Core Competencies:

  • Significant experience in HR/People business partnering role in medium to large organisation, including exposure to supporting stakeholders both in person and remotely.
  • Tertiary qualification in Human Resources or a related discipline.
  • Comprehensive experience managing the full scope of complex employee relations matters including end-to-end ER case management and FWC matters.
  • Willingness to engage in and pivot between strategic and hands-on tasks, with an appreciation for the importance of administrative and coordination duties.
  • Proven track record in designing and implementing HR programs and initiatives within a medium to large size business.
  • Strong ability to build and maintain relationships with a diverse set of organisational groups, effectively managing conflicting stakeholder requirements whilst challenging convention as required.
  • Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of the industrial relations landscape, award interpretation, legislation and governance.
  • Expert in managing processes to achieve quick results, thinking ahead for stakeholders, and implementing actions to mitigate risks.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast paced, agile and changing environment with demonstrated comfort in leading and navigating through ambiguity.
  • A key influencer with exceptional problem-solving skills and the ability to successfully support stakeholders to tangible solutions. 
  • A high level of initiative and willingness to contribute innovative ideas.
  • Self-driven and capable of working autonomously.
