Join us as Head of Health, Safety and Wellbeing reporting to the Executive General Manager Governance to lead, facilitate, implement and continuously improve Port of Brisbane’s Health and Safety strategies and systems underpinned by the long-term health and safety goal: Together, Engaged, Interdependent and Safe. Ensure the systems and processes are contemporary, align with regulations and promote and embed behavioural safety.

As the Head of Health, Safety and Wellbeing, you’ll:

  • Deliver impactful health, safety and wellbeing strategies in a unique business – from port operations, property development and maritime, to trade, logistics and rail – there’s a diverse range of operations and stakeholders ready to partner with you.
  • Enjoy a flat structure with opportunities to engage regularly with our Board and Executive Leadership team
  • Develop and implement the health, safety and wellbeing strategy, to improve safety performance and culture in line with business strategy
  • Lead a team of professional Health, Safety and Wellbeing experts as they support the organisation and build trusted relationships across a diverse operational portfolio
  • Advise on all health, safety and wellbeing matters including investigation and risk management, oversee monitoring and reporting outcomes, all workers compensation and rehabilitation and compliance training in line with legislative compliance
  • Deliver transformational initiatives including the implementation of a digital platform, embed a new investigation methodology and others to continue driving improvements in our safety system

  • You are an engaging Health and Safety leader, experienced in collaboratively developing and implementing health and safety strategies to operationalise them – this is really important to us!
  • You are well versed in championing health and safety best practice and overseeing the establishment of health, safety and wellbeing management systems, frameworks, reporting and policies in line with legislation.
  • You have ideally worked in operations or have solid experience in supporting operations and understand the importance of being agile and adaptive to the needs of the business.
  • You have successfully participated in cultural transformation projects and can implement the steps to continue to build a safety first behavioural based safety culture. 
  • You have an effective and engaging communication style to suit varied stakeholders and seek collaborative opportunities with key stakeholders when reviewing current state and developing new initiatives.
  • You are commercially minded, can prioritise initiatives and simplify processes while retaining risk management effectiveness.
  • You are great at building and nurturing productive relationships with stakeholders throughout an organisation.
  • You lead with empathy, you can hold respectful and courageous conversations and help to create a team that feels a sense of belonging and that their thoughts, ideas and contributions are valued.
