NITV has a distinct identity and unique purpose as part of the SBS network and is primarily produced by, for and about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples; in turn promoting an understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures to all Australians. 

NITV first launched as the National Indigenous broadcaster in 2007 and in 2012, became a part of the SBS network becoming available to all Australians on free-to-air television.  Not only did this improve accessibility for Indigenous people, it made NITV available to all Australians - showcasing the oldest continuous culture on Earth, and in particular facilitating connections with the newest Australians.

About The Role

This role has a dual reporting line to the NITV Head of Strategy, People and Operations and the SBS Head of Talent, Development and Inclusion and is an exciting opportunity to drive cultural change and make a real difference.

This role a key part in enhancing employee engagement, inclusivity, and wellbeing within a First Nations cultural framework. Reporting to both the NITV Head of Strategy, People and Operations and the SBS Head of Talent, Development, and Inclusion, this role focuses on driving cultural change and supporting talent development initiatives to build a thriving, inclusive workplace.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Employee Experience & Engagement: Implement initiatives to enhance key moments that matter in the employee journey, fostering inclusivity and aligning with First Nations cultural values.
  • Talent Development: Support talent mapping, succession planning, and retention strategies to nurture and retain First Nations leaders and employees.
  • Wellbeing Programs: Design and deliver holistic wellbeing programs addressing mental, physical, spiritual, and cultural needs.
  • Indigenous Employment Strategy: Collaborate with the SBS Talent Acquisition team to develop and execute a refreshed Indigenous Employment Strategy.
  • Onboarding & Support: Oversee onboarding processes and act as a support officer for NITV staff during formal complaints processes, ensuring alignment with cultural values.
  • Staff Events & Communications: Coordinate divisional communications and events to enhance team cohesion and engagement.

About you

Ideally, you will have experience:

  • Driving improvements to processes and/or practices 
  • Implementing people-based programs and initiatives, working in collaboration with key stakeholders and;
  • And a high degree of First Nations cultural proficiency and understanding

Previous experience in a People & Culture role will be highly regarded
