About this Position  

The Quality and Safety Manager is responsible for ensuring that all Beyond Blue information, content and services meet the established standards of quality, including reliability, effectiveness, and client satisfaction. This role involves developing and implementing quality management frameworks and systems, conducting audits, and leading continuous improvement initiatives. Overseeing a team of professionals, the Quality and Safety manager will support the continued development of the Beyond Blue’s quality management system by ensuring resources are allocated to priority projects across the organisation.

The Quality and Safety Manager works within the Assurance leadership team that includes, the Head of Assurance and the Senior Mental Health Practitioner to support quality and safety across Beyond Blue delivered services, and services that are delivered by our third-party partners. The role provides leadership to organisational teams on continuous improvement and in collaboration with the Quality and Safety team builds systems that support continuous improvement.

The role in collaboration with the Risk Specialist oversees the implementation of the organisational risk framework and associated risk functions which are fit for purpose. As well the Quality and Safety Manager supports the Audit and Compliance Specialist to implement the internal and external audit schedule and shares responsibility for maintaining organisational certifications in relation to industry standards. The Quality and Safety Manager also supports the Policy Officer to manage the organisations policy register and the continued development and review of policies and associated artefacts.

The role

The key duties of the role include:

Quality and Safety

  • Develop, implement, and maintain quality management systems (QMS) in accordance with industry standards and regulations;
  • Develop and maintain audit programs that supports compliance with internal and external quality standards and/or best practice;
  • In collaboration with the Quality and Safety Team develop a regular reporting process that informs the Head of Assurance and Executive of the status of matters relating to safety, quality and risk; 
  • Lead root cause analysis and corrective action processes to address quality and safety issues in collaboration with the Senior Mental Health practitioner;
  • Collaborate with clinical practice and other business units and teams to develop and implement quality improvement initiatives;
  • Monitor and report on key quality, safety and risk metrics and performance indicators;
  • Train and mentor members of the team on quality standards, best practices, and regulatory requirements;
  • Oversee client feedback and complaints, incident and personal information request systems, ensuring timely and effective resolution;
  • Report success and barriers to progress to the Head of Assurance in a timely manner;
  • Stay updated on industry trends, best practices, and regulatory changes affecting quality.

Team Leadership

  • Mentor and support members of the team by conducting regular informal and formal one-on-one meetings;
  • Ensure team members have established achievable work and career goals, and are provided opportunities to develop;
  • In collaboration with each member of the team create a workplan which prioritises activities and is reviewed regularly;
  • Report on team progress to the Head of Assurance.

Organisational Leadership

  • Act as a dependable source of subject matter expertise to organisational stakeholders on matters relating to quality, safety and risk;
  • Develop supportive and effective working relationships with peers and colleagues that further the goals of the Assurance team;
  • Engage and attend sector events, seminars and conferences as a representative of Beyond Blue and network with sector peers to assist development of Beyond Blue’s approach to quality and safety.

About you

To be successful you will hold:

  • A Bachelor Degree.
  • Depth of experience in quality and risk management in a community services environment.
  • Strong leadership experience in coaching high performing teams.
  • Strong communication skills and experience in collaborating effectively with stakeholders across the organisation to improve quality, safety and risk outcomes.
  • Strong influencing and negotiating skills with the ability to get to an outcome that benefits communities and the organisation.
  • Experience as a subject matter expert in implementing and maintaining quality management system/s.
  • Knowledge of risk frameworks and experience in implementation and maintenance.
  • Experience in writing corporate reports targeting varying audiences from managers to Board. Ability to provide succinct, effective and influential management reports.
