The ACCC’s CEO is leaving for a role at ASIC.

Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), Scott Gregson, will leave the agency to become CEO of the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC), ACCC Chair Gina Cass-Gottlieb has announced.

Mr Gregson’s career at the ACCC spans nearly three decades, starting as a graduate in 1996 shortly after the agency’s formation.

He held various roles, including executive general manager of both the Merger and Authorisation Review Division and the Consumer Enforcement Division, before being appointed CEO in 2020.

“This is a great loss for the ACCC and a great gain for ASIC,” Ms Cass-Gottlieb stated.

“Scott Gregson has made an enormous contribution… and he will be sincerely missed.”

Ms Cass-Gottlieb also praised Mr Gregson’s commitment to organisational improvement and advocacy for workplace diversity, particularly gender equity and support for First Nations employees.

Reflecting on his tenure, Mr Gregson said; “I have loved working in the ACCC for almost three decades. I believe so strongly in its role… But I now also look forward to stretching myself and contributing to the important work at ASIC”.

Mr Gregson will commence his new role in mid-March, following a recruitment process to appoint his successor.
