Wellcamp contract questioned
Questions are being asked about a large Queensland Government medical services contract.
The Queensland Government granted a COVID-19 quarantine medical services contract for the Wellcamp quarantine facility to Aspen Medical without going to tender.
The state claims providing the services would have been too difficult for some providers, so it did not make the contract public.
However, other potential contenders say they would like at least to have had a chance. Several Queensland-based companies say they were brushed over in favour of Aspen - a Canberra-based firm.
The state’s Liberal opposition has questioned the influence of a Labor-linked lobbying firm, Anacta.
Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk says the decision to grant the contract to Aspen Medical was not linked to the fact it is an Anacta client.
The Queensland Auditor-General has formally called on the state government to provide more information about the Wellcamp project.
