Unemployment rates down in regional areas
New statistics released this week show strong employment figures in regional Victoria.
The Australian Bureau of Statistics figures show the unemployment rate for the region dropping 0.8 per cent from 6 down to just 5.2 per cent in the three months to May.
Treasurer Michael O'Brien says the figures show the overall jobs trend is positive.
"You occasionally do read the odd bit of bad news in the newspapers about individual companies here or there but I think what these figures show is on the whole the Victorian economy is growing, businesses are putting on more staff and regional Victoria is one of the biggest beneficiaries of that and that's something we really welcome as a Government," he said.
