The Department of Communications will host a talk on the office of the future, encouraging everyone to look to ‘teleworking’ for a better way to do their jobs.

Next week will see National Telework Week 2013 running from November 18 to 22. As part of events promoting the online office approach, an APS forum titled ‘Telework: The Flexible Workplace of the Future’ will talk about the ways public and private offices can be made more flexible through technology.

The federal Communications Department says it will highlight the skills and capabilities required to employ telework techniques to create more flexible offices and workplace practices for Government organisations.

Speakers at the forum come from both the public and private sectors. Industry professionals with real-life experience in telework include Vice Chancellor of Deakin University, Jane den Hollander and Chair of the Parliament of Victoria’s Regional and Rural Committee, Paul Weller.

The talk will be opened by a keynote address by Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Communications, Paul Fletcher. He will talk about the benefits of a flexible public sector workplace and report on early progress in government telework trials.
