Remote funds renewed
Up to $45 million will go to extending scholarships for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.
The Australian Government has announced an additional investment to extend funding for scholarships for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.
The $45 million funding announcement will support over 2,200 students, primarily from remote and regional areas, by removing financial barriers to education.
The funding will benefit nine existing scholarship providers, including MADALAH, which facilitates opportunities for students from remote Western Australia.
MADALAH CEO Laura Kirby expressed gratitude for the government’s continued support.
“Together, we will continue to ensure equal access to education, supporting young Indigenous students from predominantly remote and regional Western Australia to gain access to a high-quality education in Perth,” she said.
Minister for Indigenous Australians, Senator Malarndirri McCarthy, noted the broader impact of the scholarships, saying; “This funding is about more than just education - it's about empowering the next generation of First Nations leaders and change-makers”.
The program partners with schools across remote, regional, and metropolitan Australia, offering a pathway for students to overcome educational challenges and pursue higher education and careers.
