The National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) could make things uncomfortable for senior public servants. 

Australia’s auditor-general will have a greater impact on senior public servants, ministers and suppliers, thanks to increased transparency measures under the NACC, according to Senator Katy Gallagher, the Minister for Finance, Women and the Public Service. 

Speaking at the annual conference of Australia’s auditors-general, Gallagher emphasised the value of transparency, saying that corruption produces societies with greater inequality, lower trust in institutions and government, and more frustration and hardship for citizens. 

Gallagher also highlighted the impact of the robodebt scandal, which has diminished trust in the government, and outlined the new regime for coming investigations and autopsies. 

The NACC, which seeks to prevent, detect, investigate and respond to corruption in the government, is expected to have a significant role to play, with the ANAO serving as a precursor to identifying bad and corrupt behaviour.
