Elon Musk has broken the world record for ‘worst loss of fortune’. 

Guinness World Records say that the spectacular crash in Mr Musk’s net worth has been the “worst loss of fortune in history”, having lost about US$182 billion (AU$262.1 billion) between November 2021 and early this month. 

The dramatic loss comes as part of the fallout from his US$44 billion purchase of Twitter, which has resulted in the sacking of thousands of workers and seen Mr Musk wading into thorny political debates.

The damage is not limited to Twitter though, with Tesla, the electric carmaker Mr Musk runs, having lost 39 per cent of its stock value since December 1.
