Micro-courses backed
The government has announced over $10.7 million in funding for microcredential courses in critical fields.
The funding continues a scheme aimed at upskilling professionals in fields such as teaching, nursing, information technology, and engineering, in an effort to address skills shortages.
In the second round of the Microcredentials Pilot for Higher Education, 48 courses will be offered across 25 institutions nationwide.
The government anticipates that these courses will benefit over 2,500 students.
Microcredentials are short, flexible courses designed to provide workers with targeted skills that are in demand.
The majority of these courses will be available online or through a hybrid format, ensuring accessibility for students across Australia.
The funding is distributed across all Australian states and territories, with New South Wales receiving 19 courses, Queensland and Victoria each receiving 14, and Western Australia receiving 12. The remaining courses are spread across Tasmania, South Australia, the Australian Capital Territory, and the Northern Territory.
The government says it has seen a strong response from higher education providers, with applications flowing in already.
